Our Story

King of Jewels was created by two North Las Vegas natives who were raised in “Sin City.” As young men we experienced growing up in a community that was riddled with gun violence, substance abuse, and an overall sense of hopelessness. It was difficult for many of our peers to see their full potential in a society that only seemed to see the worst in them. We were two of the lucky ones who had access to mentors and exposure to developmental experiences that helped shape us into leaders in our community. Our co-founder Nicholas Mathews was able to graduate as a high school valedictorian and has a master’s degree from an Ivy League institution. Our co-founder, Sean Tory is currently a business owner, podcast host, holds a leadership position at a local college and is a Ph.D candidate. Without the support and knowledge that our mentors poured into us, we would not be where we are today.

Many young men don’t have access to positive male role models and fall victim to societies stereotypes. Our community is filled with community leaders who can serve as mentors, but it is not easy for young people to find them. King of Jewels was created to provide a space where young men can feel safe to develop meaningful relationships. We also help our young men improve their self-esteem, leadership skills, and interpersonal relationships. We provide mentorship see the King within themselves. Our goal is to connect young men with like-minded peers and mentors who can help them develop skills they need to be successful.

The invaluable nuggets of information that are shared through our program are what we refer to as “jewels.” It is our job to equip our young men with enough “jewels,” so they can experience the richest life possible for themselves. These riches include more than simply money. We inspire our kings to be rich in mind, body, and spirit. That is what we consider living life like a King.

 Our Impact

We make a positive impact on the lives of young men and their families by working to:

  • Connect young men to positive role models

  • Develop a network of support comprised of peers and influential members in the community

  • Introduce young men to new opportunities and experiences

  • Increase high school graduation rates

  • Stress the value of post-secondary education

  • Combat the school-to-prison pipeline

Our Motto

Engage. Empower. Encourage.

〰️

Engage. Empower. Encourage. 〰️

Engage.

We pride ourselves on using trauma informed, culturally appropriate engagement efforts to make sure our participants feel heard, valued and supported.

Empower.

We work to empower our youth by equipping them with the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to live like a King!

Encourage.

We provide encouragement and support as our participants begin to use the jewels that we have taught them. We continue to support our Kings even after they matriculate out of the program.
